2ND SUNDAY, YEAR C: REFLECTION BY FR. JULIAN EKEH
(John 2:1–12)
THEME: THE LORD WILL NEVER ABANDON YOU
The Lord is at work in us, for us, and with us always. Today’s Gospel Reading records the very first miracle of our Lord Jesus Christ through which He manifested His glory and His disciples believed in Him.
It occurred in a context. The wedding feast at Canna was the occasion. A miracle is the manifestation of the wondrous doings of the Lord. It is the intervention of God in human condition. It is the result of man’s involvement of God in his endeavours. Hence, having gotten God involved in their celebration, Jesus answered His name: ‘God with us’. And if God is with you, who can be against you? If God is your confidence, even disappointments will turn to blessings. Every emptiness will be filled. Yes, all forms of emptiness. He will not abandon you. Do you feel God has abandoned you?
INVITE HIM:
If you really want every day of your life to be a celebration of his goodness. Call upon Him He will not delay, you may as well do that through His Mother.
CALL UPON HIS MOTHER
It was the Blessed Virgin Mary that pointed out to Jesus what exactly was lacking. May you have people who will point out the lack in you and get Jesus to do something in that regard.
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
There’s nothing that makes a helper lose interest in rendering assistance like not following instructions. For the miracle of experiencing God’s providence to come about, we must follow divine instructions and guidelines. How obedient are you to the guidelines of God?
NEVER GET TIRED OF DOING YOUR BEST
“Do your best and leave the rest to God” is what we hear almost every day. Even when you feel no help is coming your way, don’t stop doing the good things you can. Fill the jars, yes, with water. As ordinary as it may seem. God knows how to turn it to the sweetest wine.
FEAR NOT, GOD WILL PERFECT IT
Don’t get tired of moving on, persevere, and ride on. you will certainly be celebrated someday. Celebrated for good.
What are the challenges that make you feel that you’re not going to end well? What are those circumstances that want you to think that God can leave you on the way? He says I will change the tastelessness in you to become the sweetest taste. He will decorate you with divine love. He will delight in you. He will put a permanent smile on your gloomy face.
May God bless His word in your hearts.
LET US PRAY
Almighty ever-present God, we thank You for the miracles You do in our lives daily. We call upon Your divine assistance upon us through the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May we always get You involved in all our endeavours and never be abandoned nor put to shame. Manifest Your glory in our lives when there seems to be no hope through Christ our Lord. Amen
