Tuesday of the 17th Week: Reflection by Rev Fr Julian O Ekeh
Theme: THE HOMILY OF JESUS
(Matthew 13:36–43)
When Jesus finished proclaiming the Gospel in form of a parable, His disciples said to Him: “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field” Jesus finished the explanation and concluded this way: “He who has ears, let him hear. “
What else are we to add to this when Jesus has finished the homily? He has explained to his disciples the hidden wisdom of the parables. We should take home some points as the disciples of Jesus Christ in the present dispensation.
Coming to Jesus in doubt and confusion
This is an important lesson. It debunks the Igbo adage that says: “Onye aturula ilu kowaala ya ego e ji luo nne ya furu ohia” (Proverbs are not meant to be explained, unless you are foolish). Here, we talk of faith seeking understanding. We hunger to get details and full knowledge of the message of Christ.
The articles of the faith, our personal challenges, our doubts, fears and confusions should draw us to God rather than taking us away from Him. When we draw closer to Him in prayers, meditation and docility of spirit He will reveal to us truths about Himself, ourselves and our world that no one can tell us.
Live in awareness
With the understanding of the word of God, we live in consciousness of the fact that the human and diabolic forces target our soul to destroy it. We stand up to the enemy, strong in faith. We put the heavenly values ever before us and avoid the risk of losing out eternally on judgement day.
Let us, therefore, come to God with openness for him to help us to understand His holy will for us and to overcome the evil effects of the various weeds, the sons of the devil that come to sow evil within us. May the evil plans of the enemy to destroy us be frustrated by the power of the word of God in our lives.
LET US PRAY
Thank You Jesus for Your word that is Spirit and Truth. Consecrate us in Your truth O Lord. Save us from doubt, frustration and despair. May we live in awareness of Your good plan for us and of the evil plans of our enemies. Grant that we may overcome the enemy’s operations in our lives through Christ our Lord. Amen
God bless your Tuesday (17th Week, Ordinary Time)
