Theme: TAKE WHAT BELONGS TO YOU AND GO

(Matthew 20:1–16a)

Talking about the kingdom of God, Jesus with the aid of a parable, told the story of the householder who went out at different hours of the day to call in labourers into his vineyard. At the end of the day, they all were paid the same amount as was the initial agreement. But those who started working earlier had imagined that their pay would have been higher, and this made them to feel bad at the kindness of the householder. But the householder addressed them: Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to give to this last as I gave to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?

My beloved friends in Christ, let us thank God in a very special way today because men are not God. If men were God, it would not have been a good story in the world. If men could control the ways of God, some people would have been condemned to everlasting damnation. If men were God, a lot of people would not have been given opportunity of survival and success. If men were God, the heavenly gates would have been a no-go area to many. A lot of persons would have been left labouring while others will keep savouring. Men would have advised God not to accept some people they see to be second class citizens. But in the sight of God sincerity and effort is what matters. He rewards everyone according to his deeds.

Our Lord therefore encourages us today to stop unnecessary interferences in the life of others. He frowns at being envious of people’s blessings. He wants us to look within us and discover the things the Lord has blessed us with and diligently use them to work out our salvation in fear and trembling. It is His holy will that we do stay focused and never be discouraged when others are doing better than us. He wishes that we live always in thanksgiving to Him.

LET US PRAY

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your love and mercy. We glorify You for Your patience and opportunities You grant us to be better each day. Forgive us for the times we wished the worst for our fellow human beings. Help us to discover what You have blessed us with and appreciate Your blessings and favours on our neighbours. We ask these through Christ our Lord. Amen.

God bless your Wednesday (20th Week, Ordinary Time)
